The Cheat Mountain Salamander (Plethodon nettingi) is a federally threatened small woodland salamander endemic to the Cheat Mountain range and surrounding highlands of West Virginia.

Only 81 populations are known to occur from a 19-mile by 57-mile range across five counties. This majestic salamander, covered in gold flecks, occupies the rugged yet beautiful red spruce forests above 2,000 feet elevation.

EDGE’s professional Herpetologist, Mr. Tim Brust, is a USFWS and WVDNR approved Cheat Mountain Salamander surveyor with over 9 years of experience working alongside world renowned CMS expert Dr. Thomas K. Pauley in the mountains of West Virginia.

Evaluating and managing the potential disturbances to CMS is critical to your project’s success. If your project is located within CMS range, please reach out to Tim for #furtherinsight.
